November 14, 2025

Midway University is proud to recognize the outstanding achievements and service of two exceptional graduates who were honored during this year’s Homecoming festivities. Each year, the Midway University Alumni Association presents awards to alumni who exemplify excellence in their careers, communities, and dedication to the University.

Distinguished Alumni Award: Rhonda Sims ’99, ’05
This year’s Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to Rhonda Sims, a 1999 and 2005 Midway graduate whose career and community impact exemplify the highest ideals of the University. For the past 23 years, Sims has served as a forensic nurse, providing critical care and support to victims of violent crimes—including domestic violence and sexual assault—while remaining on call around the clock.

In addition to her clinical work, Sims has played a key role in advancing health promotion and disease prevention initiatives within Amish and Menominee communities. She also volunteers with the Kentucky Blood Center to help recruit new blood donors and dedicates her time to mentoring and training the next generation of forensic nurses.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is given annually to a graduate who demonstrates outstanding professional achievement and exceptional community service—qualities that Sims embodies through her tireless work and advocacy.

Ruth Slack Roach Memorial Award: Beverly Drake ’68
Beverly Drake, Class of 1968, was honored with the Ruth Slack Roach Memorial Award. Established in 1995, this award recognizes a graduate whose commitment to community service reflects the generosity and spirit of its namesake, Ruth Slack Roach, a beloved friend and supporter of Midway University.

Drake’s legacy of volunteerism spans decades, beginning soon after her graduation. She has been an unwavering champion for the University, helping organize alumni dinners and events, supporting fundraising initiatives, and conducting outreach to keep fellow alumni connected and engaged. She currently serves her second term on the Midway University Alumni Association Board, continuing to demonstrate her deep dedication to the Midway community.

Midway University congratulates Rhonda Sims ’99, ’05 and Beverly Drake ’68 on their well-deserved honors and thanks them for their remarkable contributions to their professions, communities, and alma mater.
