The Need
The fall of 2024 marked the ninth straight year of enrollment growth at Midway University. With a limited inventory of affordable housing off-campus, there’s an increase in the demand from students to live on campus. We have been strategic to address those needs with our own limited housing.
We are in the middle of a three-phase project to transform our existing library into a residence hall. In August 2023, we completed the conversion of the top floor to create a living/learning center. It added 43 new beds as a short-term response.
Phase Two includes the construction of a new library for which we currently are raising funds. Phase Three entails completing the conversion of the remaining two floors of the existing library, for which we already have the funds.

The Project
The library is the academic and creative service nucleus for campus. This new facility – named after James A. & Martha R. Brown in recognition of a lead gift from their foundation – will reflect Midway's personalized experiential learning approach.
The project will enable us to construct a 20,000 square foot modern, two-story library on campus. Although today's libraries are much different, it will include the traditional offerings and IT infrastructure to address students’ needs for collaboration, tutoring, and learning spaces. There will be open study areas, individual and group study rooms, classrooms, seminar rooms, stacks, work areas associated with library functions, offices, computer labs, an e-Sports arena, and a café.
