  • Business Student Begins Internship with Woodford County EDA

February 03, 2023

Midway University student John Stafford has been selected for the Spring 2023 Woodford County Economic Development Authority (EDA) internship. Stafford is majoring in Business Administration and hopes to go into Commercial Real Estate after earning his degree.

To be eligible for academic credit during this internship, Stafford is taking the BUS 495 Internship course taught by Gavin Washington, Associate Professor of Sport Management. In addition to the course, Stafford works ten hours on average each week, remotely and at the EDA office in downtown Versailles.

“This internship opportunity allows me to learn firsthand about the business of community development and planning,“ said Stafford. “My favorite courses have been business and finance, and with this internship opportunity I will be able to apply knowledge from the classroom to a real-world setting.”

“This internship opportunity was developed last year, and John is our second intern at the EDA,” said Michael Michalisin, Instructor of Business, Midway University and Chairman of the Woodford County EDA. “These internships allow our students exposure to the real-world of business. John has impressed us in the classroom and now he can take what he is learning and apply it in the community - it is a win-win for Midway University and Woodford County.”

Stafford, a native of Martin County Kentucky, is a student-athlete and is a member of both the Midway University Wrestling and Western Teams. Outside of Midway University, he serves in the Kentucky National Guard as a Petroleum Supply Specialist.
