  • 2023 Alumni Awards Announced

November 20, 2023

The Midway University Alumni Association Board recently presented its annual alumni awards to two graduates, Leah Rice '17 and Mallory Able '17.

Rice received the Distinguished Alumni Award, which is presented to a graduate who merits special recognition for outstanding achievement in his or her career and for community service.

Rice joined Midway University in 2010 and has held every role within the accounting department. Today she is the Vice President of Finance and Administration at Midway University. She is a big believer in the benefit of private higher education and loves to tell the story of Midway’s transformation over the years.

Able was honored with the Ruth Slack Roach Memorial Award. The honor was established in memory of Mrs. Roach, a long-time friend, former trustee, and supporter of the University. It is presented to a graduate who has demonstrated community service in the same spirit as Roach exemplified throughout her life.

Able is a 2017 ADN graduate of Midway University’s nursing program. She received this award for launching nursing care for the Refuge for Women of KY Emergency Housing, a non-profit, faith-based organization providing specialized long-term and emergency housing for women who have escaped human trafficking or sexual exploitation. Due to unforeseen circumstances the organization had to close in early 2023. Able now works for Baptist Health Lexington Cancer Center as the Outpatient Infusion Nurse.
