Midway University is pleased to announce it will host its 2021 Spotlight Awards in-person on Thursday, May 20. The event will honor two familiar faces to many in the Lexington area.
Donna Moore Campbell, a Midway University alumna and longtime Kentucky Educational Television (KET) broadcaster, will receive the Midway University Legacy Award. This award recognizes her many years of service and support to the University. She currently serves as the Chair of the Midway University Board of Trustees
Well-known and recently retired WKYT-TV newscaster Barbara Bailey will be honored with the Pinkerton Vision Award. The award recognizes Bailey’s imprint on the Lexington (and Kentucky) television media during her 40 year career as a role model for many women in broadcasting and other professions.
“This year’s theme – Mask-erade – is a play on the need to still remain diligent in mask wearing and other protocols necessary for an in-person gathering,” said Tim Culver, Vice President of Advancement. “We are looking forward to hosting the event in-person after having to cancel it last year.”
The Spotlight Awards, which is the school’s largest annual fundraiser, has a new twist to it, as well.
“We want everyone to have an opportunity to support the students of Midway University, whether they can attend the event or not,” said Culver. “We are incorporating technology this year to allow us to have a virtual silent auction starting 10 days before the event so anyone, no matter where they are, can still participate.”
A live auction at the event will include unique items and experience packages such as trips to Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas, Kiawah Island, Boca Grande, Florida and a Keeneland box for a day at its fall meet.
For more information, tickets or to register for the silent auction, contact Shannon Ireland at sireland@midway.edu or 859.846.5873.
