  • Date Set for Annual “Day for Midway” Event

August 30, 2018

Midway University will host its “Day for Midway” silent auction and celebration event on Thursday, October 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. This annual event is a fun community gathering with three purposes – one to raise funds for student scholarships, second to bring local members of the community to campus to highlight what is happening at Midway University and third to present the Community Spirit Award.

This year’s event is growing and will be held in the Piper Dining Hall inside the McManis Student Center. The event will also include live music for the first time from Midway musicians, Bill & Leslie Penn and Grayson Vandegrift. The evening festivities will include light appetizers from local restaurants as well as cocktails.

This is the fifth year for the Day for Midway. Each year local merchants and friends of the University donate more than 100 items for the silent auction to support student scholarships. And a noteworthy person or group receives the Community Spirit Award.

This year’s honoree is Lillie Cox (photographed above), Woodford County Volunteer Group Chairperson. She’ll be recognized for all her tireless work volunteering to make Woodford County a great community.

Previous Community Spirit honorees include the Midway Woman’s Club (2017), Joyce and the late Joel Evans (2016), the Midway Christian Church (2015) and at the inaugural event the late Betty Ann Voigt was recognized for her gift to the University with the dedication of the Betty Ann Voigt Nursing Corridor inside the Anne Hart Raymond Center.

The event is free and open to the public. We kindly ask that anyone who plans to attend please RSVP to Tim Culver at tculver@midway.edu or 859.846.5873.

If your business would like to donate to the silent auction, contact Marsha Melville at mmelville@midway.edu or call 859.846.5878.
