March 20, 2017

Event will also feature alumni luncheon

(Midway, Ky.) – Midway University has announced that it will host a continuing education opportunity for registered nurses on Friday, April 27. The event will focus on the healthcare implications of the drug overdose epidemic in Kentucky and will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Midway’s campus and four contact hours will be awarded. Topics will include a First Responders’ Panel and Care of the Overdose Patient in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit and Community.

“Drug overdoses have become alarmingly common challenges that health practitioners face and it’s vital that nurses stay aware of the issue and its effects,” said Dr. Barbara Kitchen, Dean of Midway’s School of Health Sciences. “We’re proud to offer this opportunity for Kentucky’s nurses to expand their training to better serve patients.”

The featured speaker for the event will be Van Ingram, Executive Director for the Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy (ODCP). Ingram joined ODCP in November 2004, shortly after it was created with the mission of coordinating Kentucky’s substance abuse efforts in enforcement, treatment and prevention/education.

Following the conclusion of the event, Midway will host a luncheon to celebrate alumni of its nursing program. The institution will also recognize one graduate with the Distinguished Nursing Alumni Award.
