  • Dr. Jeb Gorham Named Botkin Professor

January 08, 2020

Midway University is pleased to announce that Dr. Jeb Gorham, Associate Professor in Sport Management, has been named the Botkin Professor for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years. The Botkin Professorship was established by the Midway University Board of Trustees in honor of Dr. Botkin, President of Midway College, from 1985 to 1998. The professorship is to honor his many years of service and dedication to the institution.

To be considered for the professorship, faculty must submit a proposal detailing a research project they plan to conduct with student(s). The focus of Dr. Gorham’s project is three-fold and proposes research and partnered action plans to identify, build, and steward a network of trails (hiking, mountain biking, etc.) in Kentucky for multi-use tourism.

“This is the first endowed professorship at Midway University and represents our continuing dedication to students and their education,” said Dr. Mary Elizabeth Stivers, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Midway University. “Most professorships do not require students to be involved in the research process which makes the Botkin Professorship unique. We are pleased to have someone with Dr. Gorham’s qualifications and experience as the first recipient.”

Dr. Gorham holds a Ph.D. in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado; a Master of Arts in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland; and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Skidmore College.
