By The Office for Student Success It’s been six long (hopefully restful!) weeks since you finished your final exams. Now you’re back at it with a whole new set of courses and expectations. To help you make the most of this semester, we’ve put together a list of our top five tips for success.
1 - Manage your time.
Start your semester strong by managing your time with an organizational tool like a paper planner, bullet journal, or phone calendar app. Add things like your class times, exams, assignment due dates, and big events. Don't forget to block time for studying, working out, or whatever activities that contribute to your success as a student. That means blocking time for rest as well!2 - Rely on your resources.
Knowing what you know about your past performance, start your classes off strong by scheduling weekly sessions with a peer tutor. Tutoring is a great way to prepare for and ace exams. Peer Tutors can also help you work through tough homework or assist you in building important study skills like note-taking. Peer tutoring is available for all students, whether you take classes on-campus or online.3 - Reflect on your social group.
Take inventory of the individuals in your life with whom you spend the majority of your time. Are they helping you meet your goals or holding you back? Remember your purpose and surround yourself with people who support you in achieving them.4 - Find a mentor or coach to help you.
Visit with your academic advisor, get to know your professors, or find someone who is doing work that you are interested in. Successful students and emerging professionals note that having a mentor is a game-changer. The Office for Student Success can help connect you with a mentor in your chosen field. Email studentsuccess@midway.edu to get started.5 - Give yourself some grace.
Set goals for the semester! As the weeks pass if you feel that you need to revisit your goals based on the realities of the semester, give yourself grace and move forward with a tweak in your plans. Bring the GRIT! If life knocks you down, your ability to bounce back will make all the difference.Bonus Tip - Utilize the Office For Student Success.
