This month we’re checking in with Maggie Melton Elder ’18, who recently joined the staff of Pulaski Veterinary Clinic in Tennessee.
Originally from Henderson, KY, Maggie graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Equine Science with a Chemistry Minor. From here, she was accepted into the Veterinary program at Auburn University from where she graduated this past May.
WHY I CHOSE MIDWAYU: I came to Midway on an Archery scholarship, not to mention my love for horses. As soon as I visited campus, I fell in love.
FAVORITE MIDWAYU EXPERIENCE OR MEMORY: My favorite memories are Last Supper, with breakfast being served by faculty and staff the night before finals started. I also loved living on campus and being able to go to the dining hall and play sports in the yard.
WHAT MIDWAYU MEANS TO ME: Midway prepared me very well for the curriculum at Auburn CVM. I could not have chosen a better college to attend.
SKILLS LEARNED AT MIDWAYU: Dr. Ryder and Dr. Delfino in the Biology department were the best mentors I have had and helped me with anything I needed. They pushed me to be better each class I took with them.
ADVICE FOR FUTURE EAGLES: Do not give up on your dreams. If you have a setback, keep pushing forward and rely on your loved ones. You can get through anything if you really want it and have the support to do it.
HOBBIES/INTERESTS: Archery, fishing, boating, hunting, or anything outdoors.
INTERESTING FACT ABOUT YOU: I was on the USA All Star Archery Team that went to South Africa in 2013 with the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP).
