This month we’re shining the spotlight on David Lyons, MBA ’14, as he reflects on his Midway experience and his exciting career path from police officer to faculty member for various higher education and criminal justice organizations.

After serving continually for 28 years with the Lexington Police Department, David retired in 2020, holding the appointed rank of Commander in charge of the Special Investigations Section of the Bureau of Investigation. Throughout his career, David has educated entry-level criminal justice students at Eastern Kentucky University and Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Additionally, David provides orientation and leadership courses for Department of Criminal Justice Training in Richmond and the FBI-Law Enforcement Development Association.

Originally from Louisville, David resides in Nicholasville with his wife, Wendy. The couple raises mini horses on their farm. Additionally, David and Wendy produce and host the Murder Police podcast.

WHY I CHOSE MIDWAYU: Excellent staff, campus, and experience.

WHAT MIDWAYU MEANS TO ME: MidwayU helped me obtain an advanced degree that opened many doors.

SKILLS LEARNED AT MIDWAYU: Leadership, marketing, and good business principles.

ADVICE FOR FUTURE EAGLES: Take in all of the experiences and challenges, because your time will go very fast.

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: Raising mini-horses, boating, fishing, and traveling.

INTERESTING FACT ABOUT YOU: I actually studied Irish dance several years ago.
