Upon graduating in 1977, Phyllis began her career with Midway University as the Bookstore Manager and currently is Administrative Assistant to the School of Health Sciences. In her 40+ year career, she has had many roles including managing the Midway Longview Riding Camp, Elderhostel Camp and serving as Faculty Secretary.
As a Midway student she learned to take initiative, put her best foot forward and listened to fellow classmates share their backgrounds and cultures. She expressed, “It did not take long to forge friendships while learning and appreciating a variety of cultures on campus.”
Her fondest Midway memories are the Night of Lights and Friendship Circle (Bonfire) prior to graduation each year. She added, “It was a special time to express thoughts and well wishes to friends and graduates. It was an emotional time for all.”
Phyllis advises current students to “be proud of your accomplishments, keep in touch with friends and those you consider mentors. Be strong, stay calm, stand your ground when you are right, admit when you are wrong, stay humble, accept criticism, and learn from the experience.”
