COVID Dashboard

Midway University cares about the safety and well-being of our entire campus community. Our Path Forward Plan outlines the steps we are taking to ensure we maintain a safe environment. This plan follows the guidance of federal, state, and local governments and agencies, particularly the Kentucky Governor’s “Healthy at Work” guidance and the federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The success of Our Path Forward relies on all members of our University community working together. Our shared responsibilities include monitoring our own health; respecting others by maintaining social distance; wearing a face covering; regularly washing our hands and sanitizing our work or living spaces; following protocols put in place by the University and being kind to one another.

DISCLAIMER

This is a complex and fluid situation that continues to evolve rapidly and all information on these pages is subject to change as deemed necessary by University leadership in accordance with guidance and recommendations issued by federal, state, and local public health and government officials. As information becomes available and guidance changes, we may have to adjust our policies and procedures quickly.

COVID-19 Testing Requirements for Students for Spring 2021

  • All students who reside on the Midway University campus or take classes in the day or evening on campus must get a COVID-19 test.
    • For residential students – Negative results of this test must be dated within four days of the student’s move-in date. Move-in is January 17 or 18, 2021. Copies of negative test results should be provided to the University before arrival to campus and posted to the Healthy Roster system.
    • For commuter students – Negative results of this test must be dated within four days of the student’s first day of class. The first day of class is January 19, 2021. Copies of negative test results should be provided to the University before arrival to campus and posted to the Healthy Roster system.
    • For students on an athletic team reporting to campus before January 17, 2021 – Negative results of this test must be dated within four days of the student’s return to campus. Copies of negative test results should be provided to the University before arrival to campus and posted to the Healthy Roster system.
  • A list of COVID-19 testing locations in Kentucky is available online. Many sites offer free testing, rapid testing, and services on Saturdays and Sundays. Please plan to ensure you have test results within the four-day timeframe.
  • Similar to the fall term, all students are asked to self-quarantine as much as possible for two weeks before their report date. Doing so reduces the possibility of infection before arrival.

Our Path to Stay Healthy

Daily Temperature and Health Checks
  • ALL EMPLOYEES will be required to complete a daily self-health check, with self reporting of temperature and any symptoms related to possible COVID-19.   This form will be sent daily via a link in your Midway email.
  • ALL STUDENTS who attend classes on-campus will be required to complete a daily health screening via Healthy Roster. Temperature screening will take place prior to the start of any practice for each student athlete.
Masks
  • Face Coverings are required by all Faculty, Staff and Students. Midway University, based upon individual specific job duties and requirements, has masks available for all employees. All employees working on campus will be provided access to hand sanitizer. Masks must be worn if in-person meetings take place and in all common areas (anywhere outside private offices) following proper social distancing rules. 
  • NOTE TO FACULTY: Plexiglass shields are available for you to use in your classroom. Please reach out to HR to request one.  
Social Distancing/Modified Healthy Behavior

All members of the Midway campus community are expected to practice social distancing, wear a mask when around others, and wash hands frequently with soap and water. If soap and water are unavailable, please use hand sanitizer.

Appropriate social distancing requires at least six (6) feet (about two arms’ lengths) of distance between people who are not from the same household. Social distancing is required in both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Additional effective measures to reduce virus transmission include, but are not limited to:

  • Avoiding crowds and close contact with others
  • Changing social habits, including eliminating greetings that result in physical contact (hugs, kisses, handshakes, fist, or elbow bumps, etc.)
  • Following guidance on posted signs, obeying physical signals and directional arrows, and avoiding loitering in public areas where spontaneous gatherings often occur
  • Avoiding touching door handles and other potentially contaminated surfaces and immediately sanitizing hands when such contact occurs
  • Replacing face-to-face meetings with video conferences and postponing non-essential meetings and events
COVID-19 Testing

STUDENTS

  • Residential students will be required to submit documentation of a negative test result (results dated within 4 days of scheduled return to campus date in Spring 2021). Test results to be uploaded into Healthy Roster prior to on campus arrival. You may present this letter to your testing facility if one is required. 
  • Commuter students will be required to submit documentation of a negative test result (results dated within 4 days of the first day of class in Spring 2021). Test results to be uploaded into Healthy Roster prior to on campus arrival for first class. You may present this letter to your testing facility if one is required. 
  • Residential students must have proof of a negative test result before they can move into campus housing. Students who have not received their test results should contact the Office of Student Affairs prior to coming to campus and remain off campus until their negative test results have been received and uploaded to Healthy Roster. 
  • If residential or commuter students have not received their tests prior to the first day of class, they will have access to attend their class remotely (synchronously) until they have received a negative test result and uploaded that to Healthy Roster and been cleared to come to campus. 

EMPLOYEES

  • Faculty and Staff will be required to submit documentation of a negative COVID test result prior to returning to campus in January 2021. Results should be sent by secure email to Human Resources prior to returning to campus. 

TESTING LOCATIONS

Training

All new faculty, staff and students for 2021 Spring semester will be required to complete mandatory safety training as it relates to COVID 19, including our on-campus plans, proper use of face coverings, signs and symptoms of COVID 19 and other beneficial training to maintain the health and safety of our Campus Community

Sanitation
  • Common Areas and Building - Aramark will provide cleaning of handrails, common surface areas (doorknobs), Restrooms (cleaned and disinfected at least twice daily) and proper disinfection of floors, according to established CDC guidelines.
  • Offices - Employees should sanitize and disinfect all private work areas giving special attention to computer workstations and equipment; computer screens and keyboards; telephones and other high touch surfaces. Appropriate disinfecting materials will be provided by the University.
  • Residence Halls Students are responsible for cleaning and disinfecting their living spaces. Housekeeping will clean and disinfect the residence hall common areas and common bathrooms. Students residing in Belle and University-owned Houses are responsible for cleaning and disinfecting the bathrooms in their suite or house. If a student is unable to purchase their own disinfectants, Midway University will provide sanitizing products to students upon request. Please contact Student Affairs to make your request.
Isolation & Quarantine

Midway has developed protocols if a student on campus needs to be isolated or quarantined due to COVID-19. Several options have been identified as locations for isolation/quarantine. 

It is important to note that required isolation/quarantine are different from self-isolation/self-quarantine. 

  • Required isolation is directed by the Health Department for those who have a positive test result. 
  • Self-isolation/self-quarantine are for those who are not symptomatic but may have been exposed to COVID-19. The University and/or Health Department will contact individuals who should self-isolate/self-quarantine.

Our Community Members

Faculty & Staff
  • Everyone must wear a mask inside every building in all common areas. If outside, and social distancing of 6 feet or more cannot be achieved, then a mask must be worn. Masks are not required in individual offices unless a guest is present. 
  • Individuals who are unable to wear face coverings due to a medical or behavioral condition or disability may wear an alternate face covering, such as a shield. Students who require accommodations must contact our Accommodations Coordinator at tspotts@midway.edu for next steps. Faculty and Staff or campus visitors who require accommodations should contact the Office of Human Resources at dperez@midway.edu or tkjones@midway.edu 
  • ALL EMPLOYEES will be required to complete a daily self-health check, with recording of temperature.

  • Employees must abide by all safety protocols and guidelines after coming back to campus to protect the health and safety of the campus community.

Faculty & Staff Accommodations, Schedule Adjustments and/or Telework Arrangements

Midway University’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic is designed to sustain our important mission of education while maintaining the health and safety of our faculty, students, and staff.

Faculty or staff whose age or health condition falls within one of the CDC High Risk Categories or who have other special circumstances may seek a workplace adjustment by contacting Human Resources.

  • Employees whom the CDC has identified as being at “higher risk” (65 years or older, pregnant, or having an underlying health condition that puts them at risk).
  • Employees who have a household member falling into this “higher risk” category.

School and/or Daycare Closures

Employees whose dependent child(ren)’s school or daycare is closed due to COVID-19.

** Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) will also be available to those who qualify for the federally mandated leave through December 31, 2020. The Employee Rights document is Employee Rights FFCRA.

Students

Before Arrival

  • All students who reside or take classes in the day or evening at the Midway campus must get a COVID-19 test to show if he or she has an active case of the virus. The results of this test must be dated within 7 days of the student's assigned move-in date or the first day of classes for a commuter.
  • Copies of negative test results should be provided to the university before arrival to campus and posted to the Healthy Roster system.
  • If a positive result is received, do not return to campus. Isolate at home and contact the Office of Student Affairs for further instructions. In this case, a student will begin classes remotely after isolating a minimum of 10 days and being fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medications and an abatement of symptoms. Contact Student Affairs to obtain clearance for return.
  • All students are asked to self-quarantine as much as possible for two weeks before their report date. Doing so reduces your possibility of infection before arrival.
  • Sign and abide by the Eagle Social Pledge before coming to campus to help protect the health and safety of the entire community. Student Affairs will send this document to your campus email address.
  • Complete COVID-19 Training through Safe Colleges
  • Residential students must confirm their housing by updating their housing contract.

During the Semester

  • ALL STUDENTS who attend classes on-campus will be required to complete a daily health screening via Healthy Roster, which will be sent via Text message or email daily. Each student will be required to self-record their temperature on the form. Temperature screening will take place prior to the start of any practice for each student athlete. Anyone reporting or showing symptoms of COVID-19 is not allowed on campus. CDC Symptom List 
  • RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS - if you receive notice of a positive COVID 19 test isolate in your residence hall room and contact the Office of Student Affairs IMMEDIATELY for further instructions.  We have isolation space on campus for Residential Students. Student Affairs will provide a clearance for students to return to class. You will be able to take classes remotely during the quarantine period. You will isolate following the latest guidance issued by the CDC and the KDPH. You may return to campus once you have satisfied this time period and are symptom and fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medications. Athletes will have an additional medical clearance between they can return to practice. If you are asked to quarantine due to a close contact we are using the current CDC guidance and you may be required to provide us with a Negative COVID 19 test result in order to be released from quarantine earlier than 10 days.   
  • COMMUTER STUDENTS - if you receive notice of a positive COVID 19 while on campus, please return to your vehicle and contact the Office of Student Affairs IMMEDIATELY for further instructions.  If you receive notice while you are off campus, please do not return to campus and contact the Office of Student Affairs IMMEDIATELY for further instructions. 
  • Anyone who has a temperature of 100.4 or greater, in the previous 24 hours, must remain in their residence hall or at home. Please contact our Health Service Clinic and/or your personal physician for direction on next steps. Leaving your room and/or home with a fever poses a risk to your fellow classmates, staff and instructors. 
  • A mask, which covers your mouth and nose, must be worn inside every building, including all common areas. If outside, and social distancing of 6 feet or more cannot be achieved, then a mask must be worn. Masks are not required in individual residential rooms unless a guest is present.

  • Students who need special accommodations should contact Student Affairs 
  • Students who have questions should reach out to Student Affairs at saoffice@midway.edu. 
Visitors
  • Our campus will remain closed to the public throughout the academic year. Only faculty, staff, enrolled students, and authorized visitors are allowed on campus at this time. 
  • No outside visitors will be allowed in the residence halls. 
  • To help secure our campus and limit access we added a gate at each entrance that requires an approved parking permit or contacting security for approved visitors to be allowed on campus. Deliveries to campus will continue through the farm entrance, and security will monitor and approve those requesting access. 
  • Walk-in campus visits cannot be accommodated at this time. Please be sure to schedule an official campus visit with Admissions prior to your arrival. 
  • If you are not an enrolled student and are planning to visit campus to meet with a staff or faculty member, that visit must first be approved and then you must complete the Health Self-Check form for visitors. 

 

Our Campus Facilities & Services

Housing
  • On-campus residential housing capacity has been reduced for the 2020-21 academic year to reduce building density and population
  • There will be increased cleaning of communal bathrooms
  • All common areas will remain closed
  • Only students assigned to a specific residence hall will have access to the building
  • Visitors are prohibited
  • Any specific housing questions should be addressed to the Office of Residence Life staff
Dining
  • To Go Dining will be encouraged.
  • Outside dining may be available (weather dependent)
  • Individuals, rather than Aramark staff, will scan their own ID upon entry
  • Occupancy in the dining hall has been reduced and tables will be socially distanced
  • Cleaning and disinfection will be completed between each use of the table/chairs
  • The Nest CafĂ© will be to go only (no seating)
  • Meal swipes or debit/credit card transactions only – no cash to reduce shared contacts with cashiers.
Classrooms
  • Midway has evaluated each of our classroom spaces for maximum occupancy based upon the social distancing guidelines outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • Additional space on campus is being converted to accommodate larger class sizes to allow for social distancing. Our Academic Work Group is completing this review.
  • Microsoft Teams and/or Zoom will be utilized throughout the semester for all students to participate remotely if they are quarantined or in isolation, following Kentucky Department of Health and CDC guidance.
  • Faculty are strongly encouraged to host office hours for students using Teams or a virtual process.
Athletic Facilities & Events
  • Density will be reduced in all venues.
  • Hunter Field House is open on a limited basis for students and employees. Employees can find detailed information on the Human Resources portal. Students should check with Robbie Shay in Athletics Department.
  • There will be an increase in cleaning and disinfection protocols.
  • No outside campus community members will be allowed at indoor athletic events. Only faculty, staff, and students are permitted.
  • Masks, and social distancing protocols will be enforced at athletic events.
Facility Rentals

Until further notice, no outside rentals of our campus facilities are allowed.
