Five Midway University students are preparing to face a group of their peers at the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute Research Challenge. Cameron Wallis, Rebecca Monnin, Spencer Counts, and Dennis Woodrum are the presenting members of the team and Aisha Pantiere served as the research coordinator.
The global Challenge (1,000+ Universities) starts with a regional competition in Louisville where Midway’s team will compete against Indiana University Southeast, University of Louisville, and other schools in the region. The winner advances to a super-regional competition, national competition, etc. Last year's global finalists included Teams from the US, Australia, Spain, and other countries.
The Louisville regional competition centers around researching a stock (Lexington-based Tempur Sealy was the company this year) and writing a research report with a stock recommendation to buy, sell or hold. The competition also requires the Team to do a group presentation. Following the competition, the team also has the opportunity to attend a networking reception with business leaders.
Midway University’s team competes on Thursday, February 23. The team is led by their faculty advisor Michael Michalisin who has been a CFA member since 1997.
