(Midway, Ky.) – Midway University is pleased to announce that it has entered into a partnership with both Franklin County High School and Western Hills High School in Frankfort to provide dual credit courses to their students.
Under the agreement, general education courses such as English, Biology, History, Mathematics and Psychology, to name a few, will be taught in their respective schools. Dual credit courses give high school students the ability to earn both high school and college credit by taking the college-level course as part of their high school curriculum.
“We believe the dual credit program is a win-win for the students and the University,” said Dr. Johnie Dean, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs. “It allows those students who are college-bound to get an advanced start on earning college credit and at the same time they get to experience the rigorous coursework that will be expected of them when they make the high school to university transition. Midway University gets the opportunity to be a part of their education and we would hope students will consider us as an option for where to earn their degree.”
For students to enroll in the dual credit course, they must meet the minimum admissions requirements, with a recommended ACT of 18 or a 940 SAT score, in addition to a 2.5 GPA. There is a fee per credit hour, which is one-third the cost of regular tuition at KCTCS institutions. Midway University also participates in the state’s Dual Credit Scholarship Program.
The agreements with the two Franklin County High Schools are part of dual credit partnerships the University is seeking to establish with other area schools.
