Midway University Selected as Teach-Out Site
for St. Catharine’s College Students

Several Athletic Teams to Join Midway Eagles Athletics

(Midway, KY) – Midway University has been selected as a teach-out site for the students of St. Catharine’s College. This means that current St. Catharine students can easily transfer to Midway University. Admission application fees are waived, the residency requirement or the minimum number of credits that must be taken at Midway University will be waived, and earned credits from accredited institutions (inclusive of those credits awarded by St. Catharine College) will be accepted. This agreement facilitates the timely completion of degrees especially for upper class students.

“Midway University understand that this is a difficult time of uncertainty and emotional stress for the St. Catharine College community. Our faculty and staff stand ready to assist any student who wishes to transfer to Midway,” said Dr. John P. Marsden, President, Midway University. “We have already been taking calls from students. We will extend our normal office hours in admissions and financial aid to meet the needs of the students.”

In addition Midway University is planning an on-campus open house just for St. Catharine students and their families next Friday, June 10 . Advisors, admissions and financial aid officers will be on hand, and staff will provide campus tours.

“Our school size, degree program offerings, and historic mission are similar to St. Catharine’s. In addition, our tuition, room and board are virtually the same, which allows the students and their families the ability to easily make financial plans for transferring to Midway.”

In response to the call from St. Catharine’s earlier this week, the executive committee of the Midway University Board met and voted on several significant items that will allow Midway University to provide a place for St. Catharine students and student athletes. These items amend previous decisions regarding full coeducation of Midway University and include:

  • The board voted to allow Midway University to be an official teach-out site and work with SACSCOC to process the required documents and accept St. Catharine’s students as soon as possible.
  • The board voted to accept male residential students into residence halls as early as fall 2016, a switch from the previous vote just this past month to begin in spring 2017.
  • The board voted to accept male athletes and begin athletic competition in fall 2016, one year earlier than previously confirmed.

Marsden also noted that the Midway University’s Athletics Department is having conversations with several of the men’s athletics teams to possibly transfer those teams to be a part of our athletics program. “Our Athletics Department and coaches have also been fielding calls and meeting with female athletes from St. Catharine’s looking to transfer and play in the sports that we currently offer for women – archery, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball.”

“We are pleased to be able to offer athletic opportunities to the current St. Catharine’s student-athletes,” said William “Rusty” Kennedy, Athletics Director. “Getting recruited to play collegiate sports is an important aspect for many students going to college, so having a way to allow them to continue playing the sport they love and continue their educational studies is something that we are glad to assist in.”

The University will continue to send out updates as additional information regarding the teach-out and athletics is available.
