Erin McQueen, a Midway University junior majoring in both marketing and education, has opened her own social media marketing business.
McQueen’s Media fulfills a need Erin saw in the Woodford County business community. She discovered that many business owners find social media intimidating, and she knew she could use her design and social media skills to help these businesses reach their audiences and expand their customer bases.
Erin, who will graduate in Spring 2023, was inspired to build McQueen’s Media during her internship with the Woodford County Tourism/Chamber of Commerce where she has made contacts with area business leaders, some of whom are potential clients.
The internship has also reinforced Erin’s desire to work in marketing and has demonstrated the importance of the lessons she has learned at Midway University.
“Internships are crucial to see how what you are learning in the classroom translates into job skills,” Erin said.
Not only is she learning important careers skills with the Woodford County Tourism/Chamber of Commerce, she also feels passionate about the work that the organization is doing to spread the word about all the exciting events and opportunities in Woodford County.
“It feels good to get people involved in the community and show all the things Woodford County has to offer,” she said. She added that visitors to the county bring in important revenue.
Midway University has not only provided her with the skills to succeed in her internship, Erin said she receives a lot of support from the faculty.
“When I showed Dr. Gill and Dr. Bloomfield my business license for McQueen’s Media, they were so excited for me,” she said.
When asked what advice she has for her classmates, Erin said, “If you want to pursue something, do it. There are limitless opportunities. Make connections with people in your internships and with your professors. They are the best people to help you take the next steps in your life.”
