ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT – SUZANNA DOWLER ’21

This month we’re shining the spotlight on Suzanna Dowler, class of 2021 and Alumni Association Board member, as she reflects on her Midway experience. Suzanna grew up in Midway, and when it came time to select a college, she knew MidwayU was the perfect place for her. Suzanna graduated with a degree in accounting and business administration and is now a staff accountant at Myers and Stauffer. When Suzanna isn’t in the office, she can still be found on MidwayU’s campus continuing her education in the MBA program and serving as a peer tutor with the Office of Student Success.

WHY I CHOSE MIDWAYU: I chose MidwayU because the location, class size, and friendly staff and faculty made me feel at home.

FAVORITE MIDWAYU EXPERIENCE OR MEMORY: It’s really hard to choose a favorite experience! One of the most memorable moments for me was the Night of Lights where seniors place a candle in the stream and make a wish as it floats under the bridge. I remember as I closed my eyes to make a wish, I thought of all my struggles, joys, memories, and dreams, which gave me an affectionate appreciation for the past and strong hopes for the future.

WHAT MIDWAYU MEANS TO ME: For me, MidwayU means home.

SKILLS LEARNED AT MIDWAYU: I learned so much in my time at MidwayU. My coursework has prepared me well for my current position. Beyond the academic realm, I learned to lead, listen empathically, and appreciate the people around me in my life.

ADVICE FOR FUTURE EAGLES: I would advise future Eagles to put themselves out there. Go to events, get to know you peers and professors, and give everything your all. Believe me, you’ll thank yourself for it later!

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: In my spare time, I enjoy calligraphy and being outside.

INTERESTING FACT ABOUT YOU: My middle name is Blue.

FAVORITE QUOTE: We pay a price for everything we get or take in this world; and although ambitions are well worth having, they are not to be cheaply won, but exact their dues of work and self-denial, anxiety and discouragement. -L. M. Montgomery
