  • Leaving a Legacy: Mary Lou Darland '52

January 19, 2021

Mary Lou Darland '52 was a student at Midway for just two years, but says her experience was a life-saver.

"I grew up 'dirt poor' on a farm outside Harrodsburg and without the scholarship I received, I would not have been able to attend college. The education changed my life and gave me lots of opportunities I would not have been granted. I found my dream job with Kentucky Utilities, where I spent my entire career. Since I was the only one in my family who was privileged to go college, it enabled me to help support other family members plus I was able to travel all over the world. That's why I like to give back to help others and my alma mater."
