Master of Science in Nursing Program Receives Accreditation

Over the summer, the Midway University Master of Science in Nursing Program received the maximum accreditation-5 years for a new program-from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). The ACEN accreditation is a voluntary peer-reviewed process intended to enhance quality improvement in nursing education.

Accreditation indicates to the public and to the educational community that a nursing program has clear and appropriate educational objectives and is continually working to achieve those goals. Accreditation assists employers seeking graduates who are competent practitioners.

“Earning ACEN accreditation is another milestone for Midway University’s Nursing Programs,” said Dr. Mary Elizabeth Stivers, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Midway University. “I commend our entire nursing faculty and staff for their work on this accreditation process.”

“This adds another level of education to the existing ADN and RN-BSN Programs which are also ACEN accredited,” said Dr. Barbara Kitchen, Dean, School of Health Sciences. “Midway’s Nursing Program has long been recognized regionally for preparing excellent nursing graduates and we look forward to continuing to prepare leaders within the nursing profession.”

The Master of Science in Nursing Degree (MSN) program at Midway University is designed to prepare students as highly skilled professionals to lead educational and complex healthcare systems. Graduates will be prepared to assume increasing accountability and responsibility in leadership positions. The curriculum is designed so that graduates of the program can practice in a culturally and ethnically diverse global society. Graduates will be able to effect changes in healthcare which is consistent with the mission of Midway University to prepare students for rewarding careers and responsible citizenship. Tracks offered within the Master of Science in Nursing Program include Nursing Administration and Nursing Education.
