  1. Where do I get information about financial aid?
    For more information about aid go to http://www.midway.edu/financialaid/index.html or contact the financial aid office at faid@midway.edu or phone 859.846.5410.

  1. How do I register for a course?
    Current Online Students are urged to log into Campus Web at: (http://campusweb.midway.edu/cgi-bin/LOGIN.MBR/LOGIN?PREFIX=MID) to add or drop courses.  Follow the directions listed at the website.  Students may also contact the School for Career Development Office by emailing registerSCD@midway.edu or send a fax request to 859.846.5750.

    First time students will register by phone with the Online Admissions Office. First time students will receive information regarding registration prior to the course launch date.

     
  1. Where do I get information about payments for my online courses?
    Payment agreement:  contact the Midway College Business Office at 859.846.5402 or .5411 or .5803 or email BusinessOffice@midway.edu  The payment agreement must be signed and returned to complete registration.  Any amount due from the student for which Midway has not received verification of a third party payment source must be paid prior to the course launch date.

  1. What are the minimum hardware/software requirements for success in an online course?
    Minimum Hardware and Software Requirements:

    Below is a list of the minimum requirements for successfully accessing a web-based course.

Windows 95/98/NT/2000 or XP

Internet Connection (56kps or higher recommended)

Web browser (Internet Explorer 5.01-5.5 or Netscape Communicator 4.7 only)

Plugins as required by your professor

  1. Where do I get information about my books for the course?
    Books are sold through eCampus.com  To find your textbooks follow the instructions below:
    1. Go to www.midway.edu
    2. Click on the Bookstore button
    3. Click on the Ecampus logo
    4. Click Shop by Course
    5. Select the semester for which you have registered. Those enrolling in online degree completion programs should click on "Cohorts."
    6. Choose the letter that corresponds with your course number.
    Methods of payment include credit card, check and money order. Consult the Business Office for details on using balances to purchase books.

  1. How do I get my Midway College Online profile and email account for the online course(s)?
    The Midway College Online Administrator frequently monitors & obtains the registered online student list.  Once the student registers for their first online course, an email is sent with a web link for the student to complete the Midway College Online Computing resource guidelines form (CRGF).  All Midway College students enrolling in an online course for the first time are required to complete & submit the web form. Students will receive an online course profile and an email account (if you already have a Midway email account you are still required to complete this form for your first online course).  The student profile will be activated at the instructor’s direction - just prior to the start of the online course (typically Friday before the start date of the course.)  Please complete the Midway College Online Computing Resource Guidelines Form (CRGF) at the following website: http://eagles.midway.edu/iris/ComputeResGuideForm.htm.  Please be sure to include an actively monitored email account in the appropriate field in the CRGF.

Note:  Access information for your new Midway College email account will be sent to the email account you list in the CRGF.  Your Midway College Online profile/login information will be sent to your Midway email account prior to the start of your online course(s).

  1. What is the time frame that I am required to log into my course(s)?
    Midway College Online Attendance:

    You must log into your course during the first official week.

  1. How do I drop an online course?
    Drop: go to http://www.midway.edu/degreeprograms/catalog/Section%204%20Expenses
    %20and%20Financial%20Assistance/catalog4.pdf
    and review this information in the college electronic catalog.  It is listed in the “Refund and Withdrawal Policy” section.

    TO RECEIVE A FULL REFUND – Drop is required within the first official week of the online course.  You must email the Midway College Registrar at registrar@midway.edu and the email must be received BEFORE midnight (EASTERN TIME) on Sunday prior to the second week of the course.***

    Last time to drop: In a 5 week course, the last time you can drop and receive a "W" is BEFORE the beginning of the 3rd week of the course. Please note, however, that there will be no refund after the beginning of WEEK TWO of the course.

    In an 8 week course, the last time that you can drop with a “W” is BEFORE the beginning of the WEEK FOUR of the course.  Please note, however, that for each week that you remain in the course you will be charged an increasing amount for remaining in the course.

  1. May I register for a course after the launch date?
    No

  2. Can I transfer credits from another institution?
    Transfer applicants are evaluated for admission on the following criteria:
    •     All prior college transcripts
    •     High School transcripts (if student has earned less than 24 semester hours)
    •     ACT or SAT results (if student is under the age of 24, has earned less than 24 semester
          hours, or scores are required for academic programs)
    •     Grade point average
    •     Statement and/or personal interview, upon request
    Midway College may accept a maximum of 32 semester hours of “C” or better work from accredited institutions toward an associate of arts degree or a maximum of 84 semester hours of “C” or better work toward a bachelor degree.  The total accepted from CLEP, DANTES; AP; portfolio assessment, and transfer may not exceed 84 credit hours.
  3. Can I receive credit for work experience?
    Yes.  Midway College awards credit for measurable, verifiable learning acquired through life or work experiences, not for the experience itself.  The learning must be determined to be college-level, having a balance, appropriate to the subject between theory and practical application.  Learning may consist of knowledge and/or skills and can come from a variety of sources, including work experiences, community service, workshops, and military service.   

    Prior learning may be demonstrated through several options, including:
    • CLEP or DANTES exams    
    • Verification of workshops or training taken for credit  
    • Portfolio Assessment

  4. Will I have face to face meetings with my professor?
    Contacts will occur through the discussion board within the course.

  5. How many sessions will I have in my course?
    It depends on the course in which you are enrolled.

  6. What if I miss three weeks before I complete a lesson or do not get my work done in a timely manner?
    You may be penalized if you do not submit assignments when the professor has indicated they are due.

  7. How will I take tests?  Are they open book or on campus?
    Quizzes and tests are timed.  They are automatically submitted when the allotted time has expired.  The tests will be administered online and instructors will determine the format.

  8. How many tests will accompany my course?
    It depends on the course in which you are enrolled.

  9. Will I have meetings involving all the students in my class?
    Contacts will occur through the discussion board within the course.

  10. How will I communicate with my colleagues?
    Communication will occur through the discussion board within the course.

  11. What if I get halfway through the course and don’t finish it?  Will I lose all my money?   
    There is a timeline for dropping courses. Please refer to number 8 in this document. May I come back and finish it later?  No, Midway College is under contract with the professors, and there is no flexibility on a course timeline.
  12. If I submit my assignment on Monday, when will I get a response from my professor?
    Usually within one week. 

  13. Will there be a tutorial or instruction regarding use of the electronic library?
    Yes, you will be required to complete a tutorial prior to beginning your course.

  14. Will I need to be self-directed in order to succeed in online learning?
    Yes, you will be required to review a tutorial (DE 101 student orientation) prior to beginning your course.  The course will familiarize the student with our online platform.  There are 3 lessons and one quiz that must be taken.  Students must answer, at least, 18 out of the 20 questions correctly.  The quiz can be taken as many times as necessary.  There is no charge or any academic credit for this course.

    *** Please note that the DE 101 course will always show as “in progress” on your course screen even after you have taken the quiz.
