Q: Do all rooms have Internet/Network connections?
A: Yes, each room has two "wired" Ethernet network connections for computer/Internet.
Q: What is an Ethernet network connection?
A: An Ethernet jack connection provides faster Internet & email access--Day or night and even better--you don't use a telephone line!
Q: How do I connect to the campus network?
A: Make sure you have Up to Date Microsoft Windows XP or later version Operating System, updated Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware installed on your computer. Additionally, activate your firewall protection (Windows XP), install Adaware & Spybot (or similar) to alleviate unwanted spyware and files downloaded to your PC. Instructions for setup of hall PC’s to the campus network/Internet is provided by Student Affairs during move-in day.
Q: What is the advantage of using the campus network rather than dialing into an Internet Provider?
A: The advantage is it is much faster on the campus network – the speed is comparable to DSL and/or Cable modem Internet connections. Most of the newer PC's include a network card--which means your cost is $0! (If you do not have a network card, check out your local computer store for a 10/100 Ethernet network card.)
