Even with tremendous results for the 2006-2007 year where the Eagles compiled a 15-5 overall record and a 4-2 KIAC conference record, Midway College 's 2007-2008 team expects even greater accomplishments. The team loses only one player from last year and retains a strong core of upper class members who contribute leadership, judgment, and charisma. Adding to this pool of experience are several new, talented players with great skill and infectious enthusiasm. This blend of players position the team for achieving the best results in Midway tennis history!
Four seniors provide leadership and motivation for the team. Rochelle Walker, two-time Midway Tennis MVP, brings a winning, competitive approach to every match, to every point. Brittany Skeeters, an accomplished doubles player, has one of the best doubles records in the history of Midway tennis. She will be back on the courts with a new partner for the year’s matches. Also seniors, Sarah Clark and Ashley Harmon, return as key players in the singles line-up.
Returning for her third year is junior, Courtney Mikelski. Other juniors include Julian Skinker and Christina Wooton, both back for their second year on the team. This trio of junior have solid and consistent games that will be the backbone of the team. As with last year, Julian and Courtney will be back in the top six for Midway’s singles and doubles line-ups. Likewise, back for their second year, are sophomores, Kristen Edrington and Ashley Semones. Both players chipped in many victories toward the team’s success. In fact, Ashley was the team’s player with the greatest number of singles wins for last year. Kristen and Ashley will be back to their winning ways for the 2007-2008 seasons.
Three fine athletes and outstanding tennis players are joining the team. They are sophomores. Ashley Hagan, Ashley Melchiore, and Ashlee Morrell. They should be watched for certain future success on the Midway Courts.
Coach Hoffman has high expectations for her team as she begins her twelfth year as head Tennis Coach. "This combination of players will bring an explosive style of play to the court. Already in pre-season it is exciting to see the level of play, the aggressive style of play, and the consistency of play of each individual on the team. Even more exciting is the potential that each player has and her determination to reach that potential. Finally, my tennis players are solid, committed student-athletes in the classroom. Their experience in our academic and athletic programs will provide each of them with an essential foundation for future success. Along with Assistant Coach McCracken, we look forward to guiding this team to victory all year long."
