The Bachelor of Arts
degree in Organizational Administration and Leadership (OAL) has been
developed to meet the educational needs of non-traditional
students returning to college to complete a degree
at times convenient to their busy schedules. This
unique program features cohort-based instruction aimed
at individuals over 25 years of age who have at least
two years of college credit. The student typically
will have completed 40-60 credit hours of college
credit. OAL emphasizes skills such as problem solving,
critical thinking, self-analysis, communication and
ethical decision-making.
The Organizational Administration and Leadership
major with a Business Policy minor is offered through
the School for Career Development and is available
only to students in the Organizational Administration and Leadership
program. The minor is particularly appropriate for
students whose plans include pursuing an MBA degree.
The minor is intended for students who wish to pursue
more in-depth studies in quantitative and policy aspects
of private-sector business.
The Bachelor of Arts
degree in Business Administration is designed to prepare
students for varied careers in the rapidly changing
business world. The program attempts to foster the
development of qualities that are considered indispensable
in professional and management careers. These qualities
include analytical ability and balanced judgment,
capacity to solve problems, vigor of mind, ability
to work and lead others, understanding of human behavior
and social, political and economic forces.
This degree in Business
Administration is designed for individuals who wish
to pursue a career in business, government and/or
non-profit organizations. The business core consists
of courses in accounting, business communication,
economics, finance, law, marketing and management.
The major in Business
Administration with a concentration in accounting
is designed to prepare students for roles of responsibility
and leadership in the field of accounting. Coursework
will prepare students to become effective leaders
able to serve the field of accounting, the community
and society. Additionally, it prepares students to
enter graduate programs in business and/or accounting.
The accounting concentration meets the accounting
course requirements to sit for the CPA and CMA exams.
The Bachelor of Arts
degree in Health Care Management is designed as a
degree program for students who have completed certification
in a health care area. Building on general education
courses, the curriculum provides students with broad
knowledge of health care policy and financing, including
leadership and management skills needed to function
in a health care delivery system. The Bachelor of
Arts degree in Health Care Management is delivered
in the same manner as the degree in Organizational Administration and Leadership. During the admissions process, a student's
transcript(s) will be evaluated for courses that can
be applied to the degree to meet general education
and elective requirements. It is expected that students
attracted to the program will have a large block of
credit related to technical training for a position
in the health care industry, however, students without
a specific background in health care will not be excluded
from the program.
Midway College has a
long history of preparing educators. All Bachelor
degree education majors are required to apply for
formal admission to the program, prepare a portfolio,
and participate in a full semester of student teaching
prior to graduation. The Bachelor of Arts degree program
in elementary education trains teachers to work in
elementary schools. Graduates will meet the requirements
for certification to teach primary grades through
grade five in Kentucky. Through reciprocal agreements,
students should be able to achieve certification in
some other states.
Each elementary education
major must have an area of emphasis. An area of emphasis
can be in English/Communication, Mathematics, Fine
Arts/Humanities, Social/Behavioral Sciences or Science.
A minimum grade of "C" is required in all courses
required by Teacher Education program. A total of
21 hours of courses must be taken to satisfy an area
of emphasis. You may have more than one area of emphasis
but only one is required.
The Bachelor of Arts degree in Sport Management (SM) has been developed to meet the educational needs of non-traditional students returning to college to complete a degree at times convenient to their busy schedules. This unique program features cohort-based instruction aimed at adults who have at least two years of college credit.
The student typically will have completed 40-60 credit hours of college credit before commencement of the degree described herein. Exceptions to these criteria are made on a case-by-case basis as judged by a program admissions committee. The sequence of the upper-level courses recognizes the needs and characteristics of adult learners while emphasizing themes such as problem solving, critical thinking, self-analysis, communication and ethical decision-making. Students possessing an associate degree in business or computer information systems, or students who have completed 40-60 college credit hours and have a desire to work in a sport related business or organization would be outstanding candidates to pursue this degree.

The modular sequence of the upper-level courses recognizes the needs and characteristics of adult learners while emphasizing themes such as problem solving, critical thinking, self-analysis, communication and ethical decision-making. Students possessing an associate degree in Computer Information Systems are also prime candidates to pursue this degree.
This program is designed to prepare students to become managers of computer information systems (CIS) departments within an organization. It will also prepare students to be become systems analysts, web publishers, computer software engineers (programmers) and computer support specialists. Students will learn management and technical skills required of CIS professionals today.
The Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Resource Management (HRM) is a business degree with an emphasis on the skills Human Resource (HR) professionals need to succeed in Corporate Recruiting, Training, Labor Relations, and Employee Benefits. The HRM program is designed to prepare students to effectively manage Human Resource programs in increasingly competitive and diverse workplaces. The HR manager is actively involved in promoting, influencing, and recommending policies to increase employee productivity and subsequently increasing company profits. The curriculum is designed to attract academically qualified, motivated students seeking degrees in this highly specialized field. HRM courses include Workforce Planning and Employment, Training and Development, Legal Environment of HRM, Gender Issues in Management, Assessment and Personnel Decisions, and Ethics in Human Resource Management.
Employers often list
good written and oral communication skills, the ability
to analyze and solve problems, facility in mathematics
and knowledge of one's historical and cultural background
as necessary for success in most fields. The Business
Administration major offers students this combination
of a liberal arts background and a solid foundation
in business. Students graduating with an Associate
of Arts degree in Business Administration find a variety
of opportunities open to them. They will have the
general business background that enables them to find
an entry-level job.
Computer Information
Systems (CIS) is a field of study ideal for people
with a strong interest in computers and business.
The Associate degree prepares the student for the
responsibilities of designing, developing and supporting
business-related software and systems. CIS professionals
also identify and develop ways of using this resource
to help a business stay competitive in a global economy.
CIS majors must complete 15 hours (5 classes) in the
CIS core/support but have the option of choosing one
of two tracks (Programming or Web publishing)
to complete the CIS degree.
