School of Pharmacy

Midway College in Midway, Kentucky is currently working to establish a School of Pharmacy in Paintsville, Kentucky. The process for obtaining precandidate accreditation of a new school of pharmacy is lengthy. Key milestones are:

• Submit application for precandidate accreditation to ACPE (accrediting agency)
• Meet with ACPE about application, obtain site visit approval
• Site visit by ACPE in Paintsville and Midway, initiate student application process
• ACPE grants precandidate status, applicant interviews begin
• Successful applicants notified of admission
• Professional program classes begin, projected Fall 2011

The pre-pharmacy preparation for the professional program requires two years of college studies. Thus, now is the time for prospective students to make their decision to study pharmacy and complete pre-pharmacy requirements. The courses required for pre-pharmacy are listed below with a brief explanation of their relation to the professional curriculum. The biology, chemistry and math courses need to be the rigorous courses of science majors. The professional curriculum requires four years.
