Students must be able to schedule work study hours within office hours: Monday – Friday 8-5. Dress will be business casual. Work study assistance is needed to assist with clerical duties. These duties include answering phones, filing, processing mail, greeting students who visit the office, and assisting with other projects.

Equine Barn Assistant

Job Description: 
We are looking for motivated reliable people to work with our equine herd on campus. A worker must be able to work in all weather conditions, stand/walk for extended amounts of time, lift 50 lbs., and to work some weekends. We prefer you to have basic horse handling skills and feel comfortable working with a wide variety of breeds and sizes of horses. Job duties include, but are not limited to: horse care, feeding watering, cleaning stalls, stable maintenance, tack care, laundry, arena maintenance, assisting with class needs, farm vehicle operation, leading horses, and record keeping. We communicate through e-mail so access to a computer/e-mail is a must. A worker must carry proof of health insurance while employed and have a health physical on file with the college.

Job Description: 
We are looking for a responsible worker who can work with a variety of horses on campus and can handle a managerial position over their peers. Job duties include all that a Barn Worker does and is held responsible for making sure essential chores get done and making sure all workers are staying on task. You must be available to work at least two weekends and possibly early morning hours. Hours are completed around student’s class schedule and will complete 108 hours a semester. We will be interviewing for these positions the first week of class. The requirements for the student barn manager position are: 1 year barn worker experience, work well with others, be able to lead a group of workers, be professional, be on time and have staff recommendation. Student barn managers are responsible for making sure the work gets done and gives direction to the barn workers while on the shift.

Communication Center Student Assistant

Job Description: 
The primary responsibility at the Communication Center is answering the telephone and directing calls to the appropriate person/department. An electronic directory is used to search for extension numbers. The candidate should have a general knowledge of Midway College departments – academic and business (this is not referring to the academic business department). A pleasant telephone voice and the desire to direct callers to the appropriate person/department in the shortest time possible is mandatory. Between calls, there is opportunity for study. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Communication Center manager. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to cover the Communication Center during the lunch break from 1-2 p.m. The Work Study is expected to conduct herself in a professional manner found in an office setting. Supervisor guidance is always available. The Communication Center is often the first “real person contact” a caller receives when telephoning the College. The Work Study will gain experience in customer service by determining what the caller wants by being a good listener, and learning how to deal with difficult calls without losing composure. The student will find these skills are valuable in the work place, and in her personal life.

The student will assist in preparing for and cleaning up after laboratories and maintaining general cleanliness. All duties are integrated and can change daily to include: preparing laboratory solutions; setup and break-down of the chemistry laboratories; cleaning and disinfecting counters, tabletops and other surfaces; washing glassware; typing and copying materials for faculty and staff; maintaining teaching materials and inventory of laboratory supplies; preparing orders for supplies; taking inventory of supplies shipments. Observance of safety rules and regulations for laboratory work a must. Appropriate dress for duties is required. No experience is required. Some background experience in Chemistry is preferred. Training will be provided. Students must report to work on time. An interest in the sciences and computer literacy is also preferred.

Observance of safety rules and regulations for laboratory work a must. Appropriate dress for duties is required. No experience is necessary. All training will be provided. Students must report to work on time. An interest in biological sciences, typing and/or computer skills helpful, but not required.
