Writing Lab Work Study

Job Description: 
The Writing Lab is an academic support program that falls under the direction of the Office of the VP of Academic Affairs. Writing Lab tutors are required to assist Midway College students in developing written communication skills. Writing Lab tutors may be called upon to help students study for an exam, prepare for an in-class oral presentation, improve reading comprehension skills, class discussion skills, grammar and the ability to apply the knowledge to written communications. In addition, tutors must feel comfortable interacting one-on-one with other students and be interested in becoming a teacher at the high school or college level. Applicants for this position should have cycled through ENG 101 and ENG 102 and must submit a writing example to the Director of the Writing Lab.

Teacher Education Work Study

Job Description: 
The purpose of this position is to assist the Teacher Education Division in preparation for accreditation visits by SACS and EPSB. The individual will assist the Teacher Education Division in maintaining records, particularly those related to field experience of students. Duties include filing, typing, copying, entering data into database and/or spreadsheets, maintaining the resources in the Teacher Materials Center and Marrs, answering the telephone. Records will be maintained for all teacher education students-campus day on SCD cohorts. Qualifications include timeliness, cooperation and dependability. The individual should also be comfortable with the use of Microsoft products (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Access). The position will report primarily to the division chair, but will help all faculty members in the Teacher Education Division. The student may be scheduled to work with each faculty member on a regular schedule.

Student Affairs Work Study

Job Description: 
The student will report to the Office Manager and will assist with the daily operations of the Student Affairs office. Duties: Greet and assist students, staff and visitors. Design and distribute activities announcements, signs and posters. Get student and staff mail from the Communication Center, sort and distribute it. Manage front office when staff is away from the office. Sell stamps and store supplies. Light cleaning and other duties as assigned by Student Affairs staff. Requires ability to carry objects up to 15 lbs; working knowledge of office equipment; good communication skills and appropriate phone etiquette. Be courteous, friendly and helpful. Some training can be provided. CONFIDENTIALITY IS A MUST!

SCD College Admissions Work Study

Residence Life Work Study

Job Description: 
These employees provide a first line response in making the residence halls safe and secure for all students. Employees are responsible for greeting visitors; signing in guests and making sure they are escorted at all times; reporting any visitation violations to Residence Life staff; answering the telephone and taking messages; working with the Residence Life staff to ensure safety and security of the building; reporting emergencies; attending periodic staff meetings; and performing any other duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life. Employees must have good communication and assertiveness skills, be able to stay awake and alert while working weekends and nights on a regular basis. Employees will be hired as either Day Staff or Evening Staff. Evening Staff will work a set schedule of one evening each week during the semester (Sunday through Thursday) from 6 p.m. to 12 p.m. and will work a minimum two weekend nights (Friday and Saturday) over the course of the semester running from 8 pm -2am. Evening staff may be asked to pick up some daytime shifts. Day Staff will be responsible for the remainder of visitation hours (Sundays 10 to 6, Mondays-Thursdays 12 to 6, Fridays 12 to 8 and Saturdays 10 to 8) and will work at a minimum of three weekend nights (Friday or Saturday) over the course of the semester running from 8 pm to 2 am. Day and Evening Staff may change their status (day to evening or vice versa) in the spring semester.
