Midway, KY- Midway College is pleased to announce that John P. Marsden, Ph.D., has officially begun his duties today. Dr. Marsden is the tenth president of the institution.
"I am looking forward to the first few days on campus meeting with faculty, staff and our students," said Marsden. "The welcome my family has already received has been tremendous. I am ready to listen and seek input as we collaboratively formulate a future plan for the College."
Marsden will speak Tuesday, February 5 to the campus community during Convocation at 11 a.m. in the Duthie Auditorium of the Anne Hart Raymond Building. His speech will focus on the future of higher education including curricular trends, the rise of technology and social media as it impacts the campus, and changing demographics in the marketplace. Marsden adds that "the speech will highlight several factors underlying the current context of higher education, which we must all understand as we plan for the future of the institution and the needs of our students.
Marsden was selected after the College's Board of Trustees conducted a national search over a 6-month period. Dr. Marsden and his wife, Margaret, were welcomed to campus in December with a parade featuring a bagpipe player, the school's horse patrol and an historic walk up the Pathway of Opportunity. The Marsdens were flanked with board members, community members, students, faculty and staff of the College as they processed up the hill and rang the historic Pinkerton Bell for the first time.
