The Bachelor of Arts in Health Care Administration is designed as a degree program for students who have completed certification in a health care area. Building on general education courses, the curriculum provides students with broad knowledge of health care policy and financing, including leadership and management skills needed to function in a health care delivery system.
The objectives of the program are:
- To connect the student’s specialized training with a broader understanding of the liberal arts and sciences.
- To provide the basic skills and knowledge to assume a leadership/management role in health care.
- To develop knowledge and understanding of the health care delivery system as it relates to social, economic, political, and legal issues.
- To provide an understanding of the ethical issues embedded in financing and delivering health care.
The B.A. degree in Health Care Administration is a School for Career Development program delivered in the same manner as the degree in Organizational Management and Organizational Administration and Leadership.
During the admissions process, a student’s transcript(s) will be evaluated for courses that can be applied to the degree to meet general education and elective requirements. In the case of the Health Care Administration degree, it is expected that students attracted to the program will have a large block of credit related to technical training for a position in the health care industry. Some of this credit may be transferable. The degree is designed for students with a background in dental technology, radiology, respiratory care, and similar careers, who wish to extend their career options beyond clinical practice. Students without a specific background in health care will not be excluded from the program.
