Hunt Seat Coach, Joyce Brinsfield, grew up with horses from an early age and began showing locally in open shows at the age of nine. Her skills quickly took her to competition on the A-rated hunter circuit.

As an avid 4-H member, Coach Brinsfield won numerous awards each year at the Maryland State 4-H Horse Show. She represented Maryland three times at the Eastern National 4-H Horse Round-up in Louisville, KY, as a member of the Horse Bowl Team and Hippology Team as well as winning the Public Speaking Contest. Once out of 4-H, she continued to help at the Eastern National as a volunteer and then as a committee member for the Hippology and Horse Judging Contests.

Coach Brinsfield graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.S. in agriculture. She majored in agricultural communications and minored in agricultural economics. She was a member of the University of Kentucky Equestrian Team in which she competed at IHSA Nationals for the team coached by Betsy Fishback. Additionally, she was a member of the University of Kentucky Horse Judging Team and the University of Kentucky Dairy Judging Team as well as being a member of the Agribusiness Club and Block and Bridle. At the same time, with her horse, Ballyhigh, she competed in the amateur/owner and adult amateur divisions and won numerous Kentucky Hunter Jumper Association awards including the sportsmanship award and high point in adult equitation.

In 1992, Coach Brinsfield became a professional rider. She was employed by various farms including Robert Murphy Stable in Lexington, KY. In 2001, she started her own business, Ballyhigh Show Stable, which is located at Brinsfield Farm in Versailles, KY. Brinsfield was the high point trainer for the 2009 KHJA Medal Finals, and her students have won the KHJA Medal in 2006 and 2009. In 2010, her client, Emily Smith, was 10th at the North American League Children’s Hunter Finals at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show at Harrisburg, PA, and qualified and competed at the Washington International Horse Show in Washington, D.C.

Coach Brinsfield is a past president and board member of the Kentucky Hunter Jumper Association. She resides on her farm in Versailles with her son, Travis Rogers.
