The Medical Coding Associate Degree program features accelerated instruction and prepares students with an appropriate foundation of skills and knowledge directly applicable to the healthcare support industry. The program emphasizes writing; computer applications; health information management; medical vocabulary; structure and function of the human body; pathological processes; drugs; medical coding, billing, law and ethics.
This program prepares students for the field of health information and medical records as a medical coder. Students who successfully complete this program are prepared to sit for the medical certification exams offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (http://www.aapc.com) and the American Health Information Management Association (http://www.ahima.org).
All coursework for this program is 100% online. There are two practicums required at the end of the program.
