Dr. William B. Drake, Jr.
I welcome you to Midway College’s internet home!
Midway College has a very rich history, and has undergone many changes over the past 160-plus years to become an institution that serves underserved populations, and provides associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in a variety of ways to provide the most benefit to the student.
Our story began in 1847 with the establishment of the Kentucky Female Orphan School (KFOS). We celebrated the 160th anniversary of our institution in 2007 and have so many milestones to mark our journey to the present day.
With the establishment of KFOS a brighter future for education of women and the underserved emerged in Kentucky. As KFOS evolved over the years, first to Pinkerton High School, then Midway Junior College, and finally Midway College, the mission to serve the underserved never wavered.
Today Midway College stands proudly on a hill overlooking the beautiful, quiet town of Midway, Kentucky, surrounded by 200 acres of lush horse farm land and beautiful buildings that date from 1858 to 2003. However, we are not just the traditional women’s college that our predecessor KFOS became. We are also a school for men and women who are seeking to better their lives with a quality education delivered in a convenient format.
Our women’s college continues today as the only women’s college in Kentucky. There are four pillar programs within the women’s college, including business, equine, nursing, and teacher education. We also offer athletic teams in basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer, cross country, track, and tennis; and riding teams in hunt seat, eventing, and western.
Our School for Career Development (SCD) and Midway College Online (MCO) serve a rapidly growing population of adult learners, who seek to complete a degree without complicating their lives. The accelerated formats of the courses in SCD and MCO allow adult learners to complete their major in less than two years in most cases. SCD offerings are available on the Midway campus and at several off-site locations throughout Kentucky, in partnership with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). MCO offers students the ability to take classes online anytime, anywhere.
In 2008 we launched our first graduate program--a Master’s in Business Administration that is offered in the same accelerated format as our highly successful SCD programs. MBA candidates attend class on the Midway campus once per week and can complete their MBA in two years.
As you read through our website you will learn more about these things and about the other facets of Midway College that make this place so unique. Thank you for your interest in Midway College.
Sincerely,
Dr. William B. Drake, Jr.
